Richard works with steel, forging, forming and fabricating all of his work by hand. He uses a range of traditional and modern tools and techniques to create his work.
Richard started the forge back in 2010, which is based in the old sawmill building nestled in the beautiful village of Milland, West Sussex. From here Richard produces his work, a mix of contemporary art and high quality furniture, good design is extremely important.
Richard’s approach is one of honesty where every element is integral to a piece, he enjoys finding unusual solutions to problems and has a fascination with the ways in which things are joined.
After early years studying Engineering at Alton College Richard’s journey into blacksmithing started in 2006 when he joined The National School of Blacksmithing. In conjunction with Hereford College of Arts, the NSB offers the only degree in Blacksmithing in Europe, here Richard learned the skills of his trade, leaving with a first class honours degree. He was also awarded the Stanley Allcard Cup for Excellence by the Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths as a result of his time at the national school.
